Exotismos

We are excited to share the opening of Exotismos, Vasco Araújo's solo exhibition at A Casa do Jardim da Estrela - Um Teatro em Cada Bairro, January 17th at 6 PM.

 

On view until March 20, the exhibition brings together a series of sculptures and sound sculptures which, using fruits and plants often presented as exotic, question the definition of civilization and our relationship with what we consider to be different. In addition to these, it also includes works from the series É por isso que me Lembrei do Passado, por ter Medo do Futuro..., which explore relationships of power, dependence and submission, both framed by family, domestic and social contexts, and underpinned by notions of exoticism and otherness.

Until January 30, the public is also invited to explore the piece Adansonia, a video installation on a large-format drawing that suggests an analogy between the history of plants and the history of human beings.
