Galeria Francisco Fino is pleased to share Daniela Ângelo, Igor Jesus and Tris Vonna-Michell’s participation in ‘Serpente Infinita’ – BF24_Bienal de Fotografia de Vila Franca de Xira! Opening Saturday, November 30th, 4 PM, at Celeiro da Patriarcal.
Curated by Ana Rito, the program presents a set of interventions in various locations in the Village, with collective exhibitions and individual presentations by national and international artists, as well as an artistic and editorial residency at Fábrica das Palavras with the publishing-house Sr. Teste.
Based on a speculative reading of ‘A Lecture on Serpent Ritual’, a text based on the conference given by Aby Warburg in 1923 at the Kreuzlingen hospital (at the time, casually titled ‘Images of the Pueblo Indian Region of North America’), the current edition of the Photography Biennial of BF24 aims to exercise a multimodal and plural approach to concepts such as metamorphosis, transmutation, magic, ritual, skin, amouflage, surface or fold, observing the «images that change their skin». The flow between images, fixed and/or moving, owing their transformation to an anachronistic gesture, enhances a serpentine atlas where the «nymphs» cross historical times as well as contemporary times.
With works by Adriana Molder, Anna Maria Maiolino, Bárbara Fonte, Brígida Mendes, Bruce Nauman, Carla Cabanas, Damir Ocko, Daniela Ângelo, Denilson Baniwa, Elisa Azevedo, Igor Jesus, Inês Moura, Institut Lumière, Irit Batsry, Paulo Arraiano Sandra Rocha, Sr. Teste and Tris Vonna-Michell
