Galeria Francisco Fino is pleased to share the screening of Vasco Araújo’s ‘Carmen Troubles’, next Saturday, December 21st, at De Balie, in Amsterdam! The screenings and talk with Pastora Filigrana will be presented in the context of filmmaker and multimedia artist Wu Tsang’s project ‘Carmen and Carmen’.
The famous opera Carmen, by Georges Bizet, created and perpetuated a stereotypical image of Roma women that is dominant in the imagery of Western societies. Director Vasco Araújo dissects this image with a group of Roma women, including the lawyer and activist Pastora Filigrana, who demand their own space.
