The renewed Centro de Arte Moderna Gulbenkian will open September 21st and 22nd with different exhibitions and a performative arts program, including the group show Linha de Máre. Coleção do CAM. Bringing together over 90 artworks, the exhibition presents Gabriel Abrantes’ video work Bardo Loop (2024), commissioned by CAM.
Blending wry, ironic humor, with overt melodrama, the four animations that make up the installation feature ghosts in the midsts of arguments, reconciliations, or singing laments. Envisioned as floating sheets with eye and mouth cutouts, these specters, and the arguments they embody, explore autobiographical fragments and personal tragedies within the context of broader existential themes such as climate change and anxieties of a digitally-dominated future.
